Quick Start Guide for Vaccine Device Rollout

This article provides all you need to know on how to set up and start using your new device. It includes instructions for getting started on Windows 10 laptops and iOS iPads.

If you have an iPad, please go to the next section. If you have a laptop, please read this guidance to understand how to get started.

Getting Started on Windows 10

  1. Unbox the device, plug it in to power and turn it on.
  2. Connect to a wireless or wired network with internet access.
  3. Enter your username. This is your nhs.net email address.
    IMPORTANT NOTE

    You should have received a welcome email with your nhs.net account username and a text message on the mobile phone number that was supplied for activating your account containing your password. If this is not received, please contact the ATOS Support Desk by emailing [email protected] to get support.

  4. Enter your password.
  5. If you are an existing nhs.net user, please skip to Step 6. If you are a new user, you will be asked to change your password. Choose your new password.
  6. Please wait a few moments while your device is getting set up. This may take up to 30 minutes.
  7. You are now logged in and your device is set up. From the desktop you can open applications and visit the support site for more information.
  8. Please remember to log out when you take a break or finish using the device to allow others to use this shared device.
  9. IMPORTANT NOTE

    This is a shared device. To allow other users to begin using the laptop when you step away, lock the laptop by clicking ‘Start → Profile → Lock’ or sign out when you have finished using the device by clicking ‘Start → Profile → Sign Out’. You can also use the shortcut ‘Windows+L’ to lock the device.

If you are a new nhs.net user, you will need to go to https://portal.nhs.net to complete some additional steps to activate your account. This includes specifying security questions and accepting the Acceptable Use Policy. This will allow you to easily

Getting Started on iOS

If you have a laptop, please go to the previous section. If you have an iPad, please read this guidance to understand how to get started.

Getting started on an iPad
  1. Unbox the device, plug it in and turn it on.
  2. Select ‘English’ as your language.
  3. Select ‘United Kingdom’ as your region.
  4. You will be taken to a Quick Start Page. Select ‘Set Up Manually’.
  5. Connect to a wireless or wired network with internet access.
  6. Please wait a few moments while your iPad is getting set up. This may take up to 30 minutes. [change screenshot]
  7. A Data & Privacy icon should appear on your screen. Select ‘Continue’.
  8. Tap ‘Login as a Guest Account’ on the iPad lock screen. [add screenshot]
  9. You will now see the iPad home screen. The device is all set up and ready to be used. [add screenshot]

Please remember to sign out from the iPad when you take a break or when you have finished to allow other people to use the shared device and to prevent other people from gaining access to data or applications using your account. [add screenshot]

IMPORTANT NOTE

Be mindful that you are using a shared device. This means that unless you sign out from the iPad by tapping [add steps], other people will be able to access data and applications using your account details. By signing out, all session data and browsing history will be wiped. This is not the case if you simply lock the device. Further guidance on ‘Using Shared Devices‘ is available on the support site.

If you are a new nhs.net user, you will need to go to https://portal.nhs.net to complete some additional steps to activate your account. This includes specifying security questions and accepting the Acceptable Use Policy.
